Greater Than Sum Episode #2: Japan JaPow tops the list of every skiers dream and that was no exception for the Greater Than Sum team. “Let’s do it and let’s do it big” they said as they committed to explore the country for 3 weeks in January. From Mount Yotei to avalanche barriers, the crew dove head first into all that Japan offered. Traveling with a group of 7 people was an adventure, and they had plenty of mishaps along the way. They learned that epic is not synonymous with easy, that getting stuck in snow banks is the fastest way to make new friends, and that rice balls are in fact the best chairlift pocket snack. The crew started out in Niseko where high dry pressure days forced them to change up the deep powder plans and opt for some big mountaineering missions. They chased snow to Furano and discovered what hype was all about. Lastly, they traveled to Hakuba and teamed up with local skier Yuki to charge around his stomping grounds. They returned home exhausted with plenty pizza buns in their stomach and stories to tell. Highlights from my rookie big mountain season. Venturing into the big mountain realm has alway been a goal of mine. My decision to leaving behind mogul skiing was a tough call; however, Jackson's cliffs, steep lines, and powder have stolen my heart.

Greater Than Sum Episode #3: Southwest Utah A perfect combination of giant red rocks and snow lured the Greater Than Sum crew to Southwest Utah for their final adventure of the season. While the Japan trip was calculated and planned, the desert trip materialized in less than a week. Enough snow- Check. Amazing scenery- check. Let’s do it. The team piled into cars and hit the road. Despite another sticky snowbank, they arrived at the amphitheater ready to charge through the big cliffs and corn snow. The breathtaking views inspired an adventure the crew won’t soon forget!
